Why Montessori for the Kindergarten year?

It’s time to re-enroll, and in many Montessori Schools including TMG, parents are deciding whether or not to leave their children in Montessori Schools or make the move to a traditional, local school.  There are so many reasons to stay in Montessori and I’ve included an article to explain some of these reasons.

It is understandable that some parents think, “Why spend thousands of dollars just for another year in Montessori?” We understand that some parents economic reasons are why the change is made to a free local school. Yet, for those who can afford it or those who apply for government programs like Step Up for Students, can give their child one more year of meaningful learning.

As a teacher for traditional local schools for 20 years, I know that local schools teach with workbooks and group learning. There have been many discussions on teaching for the “tests”.  There is a great deal of rote learning at public schools.  Everyone learns the same information, at the same time. If your child doesn’t understand the teacher will continue teaching and move on.  It’s up to the parent to find a tutor or the child can fail or not learn that “lesson”.

Montessori teaches a child to learn how to learn and to retain these experiences.  Montessori is an individualized education. Montessori is a great gift to give your child.

Here is a link to an article that explains the advantages and disadvantages in more detail.

Also, here is a link to what children should know for Kindergarten.  If you look at the list you will see that a Montessori Student knows more information than is on the list.
